History: America’s fight for independence from England

Name of Historical event: The Pilgrims land in America and eventually the colonists fight for independence from England

Who was involved: The key people involved were the pilgrims, the colonists, George Washington the leader of the colonists and Lord Charles Cornwallis the leader of the British forces.

When did the event occur: The pilgrims landed in America in November 1620. The war happened from 1775 to 1783.

What happened: The pilgrims moved to America planning  to still be part of the English government yet being able to practice their religion in a purer way. Eventually, the descendants felt that the English government no longer supported them so they wanted to break away. The beginning of the war was in Massachusetts where the British fired at the colonists then fights broke at all over America, including Lexington, Boston, New York and Philadelphia for 6 years. On July 4th the declaration was signed however, it would be another 7 years into the world finally ended on September, 3 1783.

Where did the event occur: The pilgrims left England for America. The war took place in America.

Why is this event important in history: Originally the pilgrims chose to leave for America but to keep their ties to England. America’s fight for independence from England is important because it resulted in America becoming a country.
