Step 1: Thematic Concept – Connection

Step 2: Thematic Statement/Universal Truth – Wherever you end up in the world, you are always connected to where you come from.

Explanation: A common thread through all the parts of my REHUGO project is that despite many people having to leave their home, there is always a  part of them connected to where they came from. Even those who left and found a better life still had some tie to home. Saroo was happy in Tasmania but needed to know his mom was ok, just like Akbari. The Colonists were eager to leave England yet still used the names of places they were familiar with back home when they discovered new land. Manny believes he can get a better life in America but will still carry some traditions from Mexico in his new life. Boscobel House was an interesting museum not only because of the history, but also because it is located where my mom grew up and I like feeling connected to the english part of me. Similarly, it is obviously important to my mom that I stay connected to family traditions including enjoying Tom Jones.
